Flare sighting – 1st June 2008

Skerries Coast Guard were tasked at 21:30 this evening by the Irish Coast Guard’s rescue coordination centre (MRCC) to investigate a flare sighting. Several members of the public had contacted the Coast Guard and reported sighting distress flares in the Skerries area.

The Skerries Coast Guard team immediately conducted a coastal search, quickly establishing no vessals in the area were in distress and traced the deployment site of the flares to an area inland. A search of the area was made with the assistance of local Gardai, and a number of live distress flares were recovered.
