St Patrick’s Day Parade 2013

This afternoon the Skerries Coast Guard team took part in the town’s St Patrick’s day parade. Hundreds of members of the public braved the cold and overcast weather to line the streets and show their support for the various groups, clubs, organisations etc that marched and danced their way along the parade route.

Unfortunately, the Coast Guard helicopter could not complete its annual flyover of the parade. The helicopter was tasked in the early afternoon to rescue two persons in difficulty at Greystones.

Report of boat in difficulty – 7th March 2013

Shortly after 09:00 this morning the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to investigate a report of a boat in difficulty. A vigilant member of the public had spotted a small lobster fishing boat with two persons on board and was concerned they were in difficulty.

The boat was operating close to shore, several miles North of Skerries. Conditions on scene were challenging with force 4 to 5 South Easterly winds, gusting force 6 at times.

The Skerries Coast Guard team were on scene within minutes and quickly located the boat. The boat and crew of two were actively engaged in lobster fishing and did not appear to require assistance. The team observed the boat for some time and concluded that no further action was required.

Search at Portrane – 28th February 2013

Shortly after 19:00 the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to assist Gardai at Portrane beach. Swords Gardai had received public reports of an adult male possibly requiring assistance in the area of Portrane beach.

A thorough search of the area was carried out with nothing unusual found. The Dublin based Coast Guard helicopter, R116, also carried out an infra-red search of the area.

No further public sightings were reported and all search teams were stood down.

Recovery at Skerries harbour – 22nd February 2013

Shortly after 7pm yesterday evening Skerries Coast Guard were tasked to assist with the recovery of a body at Skerries harbour. A local fishing vessel had recovered the body several miles off the coast.

The fishing vessel recovered the body to Skerries harbour where members of Skerries RNLI and Skerries Coast Guard brought it ashore to Gardai.

No further details are available at present.
