Rescue at Donabate – 9th June 2013

Shortly before 20:00 this evening, the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked by the Coast Guard’s National Operations Centre to assist with the rescue of a casualty near Donabate. The Coast Guard Sikorsky S61 helicopter based at Dublin airport was tasked to the scene, along with the Howth ILB.

A group of three adults had been swimming in the area, and unfortunately one of them became very ill upon leaving the water at the Donabate banks of the Malahide Estuary. The casualty was evacuated by R116 and flown directly to Tallaght Hospital.

Pollution report at Skerries harbour – 18th April 2013

This morning, the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to investigate a report of a semi-submerged fishing vessel at Skerries harbour. Following the overnight NW gales and rough seas, the boat had become submerged under several metres of water.

The team checked the harbour area for any resulting pollution and thankfully none was found. The Dublin based Coast Guard helicopter made an aerial observation later that morning, again no pollution was reported.

Search at Portrane – 28th February 2013

Shortly after 19:00 the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to assist Gardai at Portrane beach. Swords Gardai had received public reports of an adult male possibly requiring assistance in the area of Portrane beach.

A thorough search of the area was carried out with nothing unusual found. The Dublin based Coast Guard helicopter, R116, also carried out an infra-red search of the area.

No further public sightings were reported and all search teams were stood down.

Missing person search – Rush 16th February 2013

Skerries Coast Guard

From sunrise this morning, the Skerries Coast Guard team carried out an extensive low tide shoreline search for a missing person, Paul Byrne.  The Dublin Civil Defence also carried out extensive searches of the Rogerstown area and nearby rough ground. Unfortunately nothing was found during this searches.

Paul Byrne (aged 24) was last seen at approximately 3am on the 25th December 2012 in the Sandy Lane area of Rush. Paul is described as 5′ 5″ in height, of thin build with blue eyes and short light brown hair. The search also extended into the nearby areas of Portrane and Loughshinny.
