SAR training exercise at Donabate & Portrane

 

This morning the Skerries Coast Guard team conducted a Search & Rescue (SAR) training exercise at Donabate & Portrane shorelines. A number of scenario based exercise were undertaken over the varied terrain; from the long sandy Donabate beach, marshland of Malahide estuary and rocky shores of Portrane.

Training Exercise at Rush North Beach – 9th October 2016

This morning the Skerries Coast Guard team conducted a casualty extraction training exercise at the North Beach, Rush. This scenario based exercise covered a number of casualty extraction drills, utilizing the challenging rocky terrain of the north beach & harbour breakwaters.

The exercise concluded with a
pyrotechnic drill, with several white parachute rocket flares deployed. These white rocket flares climb to over 1,000ft and are used for illumination and signalling purposes, particularly during night searches.

Report of car in water – 17 September 2015

This afternoon, the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to investigate a public report of a car in the water at Gormanston beach, Co Meath. The Coast Guard’s Sikorsky S92 helicopter based at Dublin Airport, Rescue 116, also responded along with Skerries Gormonston beachLifeboat and local Gardai.

On arrival, the vehicle was already flooded by the high tide. All agencies worked together to quickly establish that there were no occupants in the vehicle. A search was carried out of the area with nothing further to report.

Time expired flare – North Beach, Skerries

This afternoon, the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to assist with the removal of a time expired distress flare at North Beach, Skerries. A Member of the public contacted the Coast Guard having found the flare washed in by the tide. The marine flare was in poor condition and Gardai at Balbriggan removed it for later disposal by the Army’s EOD team.
