Coast Guard Helicopter visit – 23rd May 2016

Skerries Coast Guard R116This morning, the Skerries Coast Guard team hosted a visit from the Irish Coast Guard’s Sikorsky S92 helicopter. The Coast Guard helicopter landed on at Skerries Harps GAA pitch for special visit for the pupils of Scoil Realt na Mara primary school, Skerries. The Coast Guard’s helicopter landed on at the Skerries Harps GAA pitch at 09:30, with orange smoke flares deployed shortly beforehand to assist with wind speed/direction indication.

Over 300 excited primary school pupils took part in the visit; learning about the vital work of the Coast Skerries Coast Guard
Guard helicopter crews, their local Skerries Coast Guard team and also the importance of water safety. The helicopter departed on schedule shortly after 11:00am, bringing to a close a thoroughly enjoyable event for all involved. Report of car in water – 17 September 2015

This afternoon, the Skerries Coast Guard team were tasked to investigate a public report of a car in the water at Gormanston beach, Co Meath. The Coast Guard’s Sikorsky S92 helicopter based at Dublin Airport, Rescue 116, also responded along with Skerries Gormonston beachLifeboat and local Gardai.

On arrival, the vehicle was already flooded by the high tide. All agencies worked together to quickly establish that there were no occupants in the vehicle. A search was carried out of the area with nothing further to report.

Training with Coast Guard helicopter – Red Island, Skerries

This morning, the Skerries Coast Guard team took part in a routine training exercise with the Skerries & Clogherhead Coast Guard vehiclesCoast Guard’s Dublin based Sikorsky S92 search & rescue helicopter. The exercise took place at the Red Island headland, Skerries and the team were also joined by their neighboring Coast Guard team from Clogherhead Coast Guard Unit.

The Coast Guard helicopter landed on shortly after 10am and both teams took part in a number of routine flight Skerries Coast Guard - heli trainingand winching exercises.

The exercise concluded at 11:30 and the Coast Guard helicopter departed back to its nearby base at Dublin Airport. The Skerries Coast Guard team extends its thanks to the public at Red Island for their cooperation in following the directions of Coast Guard personnel whilst this exercise took place.

Coast Guard helicopter visit to Scoil Moibhi – 29th May 2015

This morning, the Skerries Coast Guard team assembled at the Hills Cricket Club, Skerries to prepare the landing site for a visit from the Coast Guard’s Dublin based Sikorsky S92 helicopter. The Skerries team were joined by their fellow Coast Guards from Clogherhead.

Shortly before 09:30, the helicopter made radio contact with the Coast Guard ground team to confirm its imminent arrival. Orange smoke flares were deployed at the site, to assist the helicopter crew with assessing wind speed & direction. The Sikorsky helicopter landed on several moments later, the first time a Coast Guard helicopter had ever landed at the immaculate grasslands of the cricket club site.

The purpose of the visit was to allow the excited pupils of the nearby Scoil Moibhi National School an opportunity to explore the impressive helicopter up close and learn more about the work of the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard extends its sincere thanks to all at the Hills Cricket Club for allowing us the use of their club lands for the visit.
